megabits(Mb) vs. megabytes(MB)
One topic that frequently stumps people is deciphering megabits and megabytes.
“Bit: short form for binary digit. It is either a 0 or a 1 (binary code).
1 byte= 8 bits.
1 kilobyte = 1000 bytes.
1 megabyte = 1000 kilobytes.
1 megabyte=1024*1024=1,048,576 bytes and 1 byte=8 bits, and 1 megabyte (1048576) is just 8,388,608 bits, then 1 megabit is approximately .125 megabytes.
According to the binary system, used in relation to computer storage and memory, it takes not 1000 bytes to equal a KB, but 1024 bytes. This is because 24 extra bytes are used to store indexing or mapping information about the 1000 bytes of data.
Generally – Bits are used to talk about data transfer rates (1 kilobit = 1000 bits), while bytes are used to talk about storage size calculations (1 kilobyte = 1024 bytes). So when your Internet provider offers you a 1Mb connection, its megaBits not MegaBytes. So for a rough guide of how fast you can download is going to be, divide by eight. i.e. 1 Megabit speed = 128KB of data. ”
Data transfer rates are quite handy for gauging performance levels of various hardware devices. We must also translate speed to value when considering Internet service plans, advertised by download and upload speeds expressed in kilobits per second (kbps) For example, a typical Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) plan might have an upper transfer limit of 1,500 Kbps, which can also be expressed as 1.5 Mbps. A cable plan might be advertised with speeds up to 5,000 Kbps or 5 Mbps; and fiber optic Internet can reach speeds of 50 mbps or more.

borderlands….
no minecraft stories today however i do have one from borderlands session last night . got together with a few of my buddies and played some borderlands. one particular mission we were doing was called loop the loop. you have to drive a vehicle in a loop the loop out in the middle of nowhere, and why this is a mission you got me. as were were attempting to do this feat we kinda got high centered on the cliff that was to the left of the loop the loop there was apparently a glitch…

server maintainence …
i did some maintenance on the server tonight. I have been having some issues where you be walking along/running from creepers … and you would see some graphical glitches i wish i had a screenshot but essentailly i found out these appear becasue of what is called bad chunks, parts of the map that have for some reason become corrupt. what i think is causing it is the teleporting. so I’ve disabled that for now. then i found out that by using an application called mcedit its an application used to edit the maps i learn that be changing the spawn point it forces the server to reevaluate the bad chunks and rebuild then. so i’m giving it a try and see how long it lasts. also .. behold! the mighty power of thor!

One thing you may have noticed is that ive been writing a lot about minecraft …. well i just love that freaking game and cant get enough so its going to stay. i’ve been trying to come up with some content of my blog so i think im going to start a minecraft journal day one was just me exploring but today i have build a home and defenses to protect my home from the mobs.

When you first enter into my home you enter the work shop where i do all my crafting when i need tools/materials.

playing with dyes, so last night i was playing dyes ane you can dye sheep so you can harvest that colored wool and have a higher chance of getting multiple blocks that way.

the need to write…
… i have this need to write but i dont know what to write about i want to write every day but i can never seem to have anything to write about. if any of my two readers have anything they would like me to share let me know any excuse to write id take….
minecraft server lives again….
well sorta, after almost a week of uptime the server started having problems…. first it needs more ram but right now it runs fine, second the HDD is dieing this is causing lag and preventing the would from even rendering. so right now im in the process of moving everything over to a faster preforming drive and its an increase in HDD space as well. soon more ram will be added but first some screens:

for the lack of post here, there have been a lot of stuff i want to talk about, but cant. also there are a lot of stuff going on that i cant put into words. i’m not happy with the way things are and im in need of a huge change, however, i am not in a position to make a change or even consider it. most of it lie on the blame of taking a job that was the best thing that ever happened i was able to buy a house and my life looked like finally it was moving up, until i was laid off 9 months later. then almost 2 years later everything is still SHIT and im in a hole so deep that i have to imagine what the sky use to look like.
hopefully next time i will have something more happy to report
